FAQs
1
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I try to be original and hope that readers like my work enough that they don't realize it's not what they originally wanted. I will use some classic tropes that readers like every so often because…well, I like them too.
2
What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Thinking you need to get it right the first time. Your mistakes are not the end of the world, and it's nothing a few re-reads and editors can't help fix. Take some of the pressure off and have fun!
3
What's your favourite trope?
Found Family! I love it when a bunch of misfits find each other and mean everything to one another. It's by far the superior trope.
4
Will you write anything more in the world of Glorus?
Well, never say never, but I know for now I'm done with full-length novels.
5
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
The criticism is just as important as the praise. You will grow because of both. Don't be afraid to dig deeper!
6
How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
Officially 1. Technically…4
7
What was your hardest scene to write?
There is a scene in book two, A Path of Thorns, where Lilly is forced to relive some of her worst traumas from childhood. It's an emotionally heavy scene and one I took quite a few artistic liberties with. I probably rewrote it a dozen times.
8
What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?
The self-doubt. That can so easily crush your spirit. But you have to keep going anyway.
